The issue of culture in EFL textbooks has been a subject of debate for decades. There is hardly a book on syllabus design, methodology, or applied linguistics in general that does not raise the issue as one of the questions inherent in foreign language teaching. simiIarly, either implicitly or explicity, EFL textbooks have reflected this concern with varying degrees of emphasis. Central to This concern is the attitude of the teacher as the principal agent who breathes life into the textbook in the process of implementation, especially when the textbook adopts an implicit approach to culture.
