The SSA CP is currently devoted to addressing these issues under its research phase, which focuses on the following research questions: 1. Does the Integrated Agricultural Research for Development (IAR4D) concept work and can it generate International Public Goods (IPGs) and Regional Public Goods (RPGs) to end-users?2. Does the IAR4D framework deliver more benefits to end-users than conventional approaches (assuming conventional research, development and extension approaches have access to the same resources)?3. How sustainable and usable is the IAR4D approach outside its test environment? These research questions are answered through research activities anchored at the boundaries/interfaces of the following four components: 1-technologies for improving productivity; 2-sound natural resource management (NRM); 3-accessibility and efficiency of markets for smallholder and pastoral products; and 4- formulation and adoption of policies and institutional arrangements that foster innovation to improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers and pastoralists. This way, the SSA CP will add value to ongoing research on these components while uncovering new research questions.
