The Glossy Ibis is a cosmopolitan species with a fragmented distribution. Its breeding was occasional in Morocco until 2011 when it started nesting more frequently, mostly in the north-west. Recently, the breeding of the Glossy Ibis was detected in many parts of the central atlantic coast, primarily in a mixed colony in the marshes of the Oued Bouregreg. We closely monitored this Glossy Ibis colony in 2019, which allowed us to collect informations about the colony size and the reproduction. It is currently the largest Glossy Ibis colony in Morocco, with 204 nests counted in 2019. In addition, the breeding season was found to start earlier than in Western Europe and in Algeria and Tunisia. However, this colony is threatened with poaching, vandalism, changes in the hydrological regime, the increasing disturbance and the probable future roads and urban developments.
