The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants requires that countries develop and implement a National Implementation Plan (NIP) that describes how they will meet their obligations under the Convention. NIPs, which must be kept up to date, set national priorities for initiating future activities to protect human health and the environment from persistent organic pollutants (POPs). They also provide a framework for the systematic and participatory development of priority policy and regulatory reforms, capacity building, and investment programs.
