In the summer of 1999, a three-month underwater survey of Tangier Bay and neighboring coasts was undeltaken by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (lNA; College Station, Texas, USA) with the cooperation and assistance of the Kingdom of Morocco’s archaeological department, Institut National des Sciences d'Archéologie et du Patrimoine (INSAP; Rabat, Morocco). The primary intent of the survey was to locate ancient and historic shipwrecks and ship-related materials along the coasts of Morocco's Tangier peninsula. This survey was accomplished through remote sensing, visual surveys by divers, and limited recovery of diagnostic artifacts.
