Societies are faced with "grand challenges" that demand scientific research and development, technological innovations, and industry integration. Against this background it is no surprise that governmental investments in research and companies' research & development expenditures are progressively increasing. The path from science to industry is known as a process of technology and knowledge transfer. Today, the governance structure for these processes are knowledge networks between universities, research institutions, companies, but also the state. Looking at different transfer mechanisms, a direct transfer of the knowledge or technology can be differentiated from an indirect transfer via the knowledge carrier. An important role for the success of technology and knowledge transfer plays the absorptive capacity of the industry, as well us of universities and research institutions. Strategic transfer choices can be distinguished by the dimensions of transfer potential and transfer activity. And the strategies themselves can be supported by dedicated transfer methods. One important method is design thinking. This methodology can be integrated wilh systems thinking to systemic design, as it is done at the "School of Entrepreneurial Design Thinking®"of the University of Koblenz-Landau.
