Aim: Stress and stress-related illnesses are increasing among medical specialist. The study intend to assess levels of job related stress and satisfaction among homeopathic medical physicians and to investigate the extent to which personal characteristics like age, sex, job characteristics and the perceived working conditions are related to stress and satisfaction. Sample: A random sample of 50 doctors was selected belonging to different age group and of both sexes. Method: Self prepared questionnaire –“Stress inventory questionnaire” was administered. The t-test and one way ANOVA were done. Results: Many respondents showed a high level of stress i.e. an above average level. The level of stress decreased with age and experience. The physicians with less than 5 years of experience have more stress level than more experienced physicians. The data do not support the general assumption that stress among female health care professionals are more than that of males. Conclusion: The study helped to find out the main causes of stress among physicians. Work overload seriously impair the quality of work. The study also showed a protective effect of job satisfaction against the negative consequences of work stress. The most highly scored stressors were the patient dissatisfaction with the care received, uncooperative patients, financial issues, being overworked, and dealing with incurable patients. High job demands, high patient load and younger age of general physicians can be assigned as significant predictors of psychological stresses among general practitioners. Time pressure is also one of the frequency and relatively severe stressful event.
